Yesterday, July 9th 2013, Novell released version 3.4 of the collaboration platform Vibe.

This version updates the existing functionalities and confirms Vibe’s status as a professional enterprise platform for teamwork, project management and intranet solutions. Furthermore it simplifies the handling of external and guest users.

The most important changes and updates are:

  • License changes, that make license purchases for external and guest users no longer necessary, they are free
  • Update of the Microsoft Add-In to ensure compatibility between MS Office 2013 documents and Vibe
  • Updates of Mobile Apps for iOS and Android devices including applications for iPad, Kindle Fire, BlackBerry Z10 and Playbook

More information on the the new features can be found in our previous blog post: Novell Vibe – New Version 3.4 – Preview of new features and functions

Especially for companies with a large amount of external accounts for vendors and contributors, the new version can reduce license costs significantly, since licensing external and guest users is no longer necessary. Some understandable restrictions apply, though: external users cannot be employees of your company and external users cannot be synchronized via LDAP.

More details can be found at the official Novell Vibe product page and in the documentation of Novell Vibe 3.4.
