Novell has released a new desktop client for its file sharing tool Filr, today. The desktop client 1.0.2 brings along some improvements regarding performance and stability, simplified sharing and collaboration with built-in dialogs and a file properties overview. Filr administrators will look forward to easier file sharing policy settings and simplified deployment of the Filr desktop application.

The new features at a glance:

  • Built-in share dialog to share files and folders without opening a web browser
  • Built-in comments dialog to comment on or view comments for a file or folder without opening a web browser
  • Properties overview to see important information (e.g. creator, creation date, shares and access rights, last modified) for files and folders
  • Performance and stability improvements through event-driven file synchronization
  • Simplified setting of sharing policies, e.g. pre-selecting which folders users have access to
  • Simplified process for making the Filr desktop application available from a separate web server
  • Added instructions for updating the Filr desktop application on the Filr server or on a separate web server
