Novell has announced the new features and functions of their collaboration platform Novell Vibe that will be available with version 3.4. The newest version will include a simplified licensing model and updates for the Microsoft Office Add-In and Mobile Apps: https://www.novell.com/products/vibe/features/team-collaboration.html .
As Novell Silver Partner and Vibe Specialists, we would like to tell you about the updates to the current version of Novell Vibe:
License Changes
The license model of Novell Vibe has changed significantly. From this version on, a license for external and guest user is no longer necessary, they are now included free of charge. Especially organizations with a large amount of external accounts for vendors or contractors will be able to save quite a bit of licenses, as they do not have to purchase licenses for guest and external users anymore.
Please note that external users can neither be employees of your organization nor be synchronized via LDAP. However, it will be easy to mark local users as externals. In any case, external users need an email address as user ID.
Tip: Create a group containing all external users to manage them and benefit from the generic way of controlling user access in Vibe.
Microsoft Office Add-In
The update of the add-in offers compatibility with Microsoft Office 2013. Like the add-ins for Office 2007 and 2010, the newest version allows to add, edit, and create new documents, spreadsheets, and slide shows directly in Vibe using Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint 2013. Work with Microsoft Office just like you did before – and save the documents in Vibe with one click.
Tip: Combine the advantages of MS Office 2013 with the possibilities of Vibe and rate, share, tag, and comment a document directly in the Office add-in.
Mobile Apps
Novell Vibe version 3.4 also offers updates for the mobile apps of iOS and Android devices. It includes native applications for the iPad (from the Apple App Store), Kindle Fire (from the Amazon Appstore for Android), and for the BlackBerry Z10 and Playbook (from the BlackBerry World store).
