Mobility” – What your users hear is “access to all needed files from any device, immediately and easily”, “exchange of files with colleagues and project partners, internal and external”, “MY workplace on every device”.
What your IT department hears: “a multitude of unknown devices with incalculable behavior”, “corporate files and sensitive data in cloud storage”, “lost control over distribution, use and versions of corporate files”.

Up to this point the conflicting requirements for convenience and security were hard to meet. As an alternative to Dropbox, Google Drive, SkyDrive, SugarSync (that your users might already use, despite all your data security guidelines) it is now possible to offer file access, file sharing and synchronization without putting your files in the cloud. Novell’s enterprise solution for mobile file sharing and management Filr is available from April 30th, 2013!

Novell Filr offers secure mobility – that means access to files from any device, file sharing with co-workers and project partners and keeping corporate files under internal control to fulfill your regulatory requirements on data security. Enterprise files and data stay where they are – on your company’s file servers. Using Filr your users have access to their home directories and network folders from any mobile device (if allowed by configuration), via the Filr client or any web browser and can synchronize files to their local drives.

Files can be shared with co-workers internally but also with project members from outside the company, of course limited by existing file access control settings. Beyond that, administrators can define the rules for internal and external file sharing with Filr (who is allowed share, which files can not be shared, read-only shared files and more).

Just imagine how easy file sharing could be without e-mailing dozens of different versions of a presentation. And isn’t it desirable to make sure that your sales staff in the field always has access to the current version of your product lists? To give an example, all the delegates of the Open Horizons EMEA Summit used Filr to have the advantage of easy, secure and convenient file sharing, getting access to all the presentation slides and hotlab material from the conference – including the ShareOnVibe material from Code and Concept.

Supporting Windows Server and Novell’s Open Enterprise Server via CIFS and NSS, Filr provides access to any directory on your existing network file stores, regarding existing Active Directory policies. Users are provisioned via LDAP from your directory service (Active Directory provisioning of users and groups) and access their files via mobile devices (Android 2.3/4.x, iOS 5.x/6.x, BlackBerry 10), clients for Windows XP/7/8 and Mac OS X 10.7/10.8 or simply the Filr web access.

As announced during the OH Summit by Novell’s Senior Product Manager Richard Lindstedt, Novell Filr is available on Tuesday, April 30th. Stay up to date, share your ideas and experience with Novell Filr and join discussions in the Novell Filr group on LinkedIn.
